Fire up the grill

Couple more brown ones for the grill today.  Ran out in some beautiful conditions and each guy got to crank in a hard fightin’ Jack.

Afternoon was pretty tough for us.  Had a group of 6 on the boat.  We had a great time, but the fishing was far from stellar.  Caught some misc.  bottom fish.  Tried the drum and flounder with no luck.  Oh well – thanks guys  for making the best of it!

Broke the curse!

My cousins are in town from Mississippi this week.  Of course, we had to go fishing.  Super stoked that we got my recent cobia curse off the boat this morning with a couple nice ones.  We did manage to break off a 70+ on the trim tabs, but we stuck it out and got them each a nice fish.  Back to the dock at 11 to go grab some lunch before my 1pm trip.

This afternoon I had Jim and his crew.  We filled the bait box with croakers and headed out.  I was going to take em to catch some jacks, but stumbled on a pretty change with grass and blue water.  Trolled it for a while and got 2 mahi bites, saw a ton more.  Surprised to see mahi that wouldn’t bite – unusual….  Luckily we came up on a pair of cobia on the way in and got one.. Dinner!    Thanks guys – see you next year!

Jacks and Drum

Had some excellent Jack fishing on my morning trip. Surrounded the boat and fed them live bait over and over. Fun fishing.   Had a steady drum bite going for Matt and crew this afternoon.   Thanks for fishing with me guys – and thanks for checking!

FAQ: The Morning Trip

sleep_in_3_m1381399

I get alot of requests for morning trips.  I also turn alot of people down because they only wanted a morning trip    If you are already on the Outer Banks – you will most likely not be able to book a morning trip with me for that week (Until after labor day).  Morning slots are booked weeks in advance – my next open morning is August 11th.

People say they think the fishing would be better in the morning, but that is definitely not the case with the fishery we have right now.  That can definitely apply to some species – but none of which we are targeting right now.  Most of the spots / fish are more tide dependent then anything else.

Also, some customers are concerned about the heat during the middle of the day.  It can certainly get warm – but there is usually a nice breeze on the water that is far cooler then the one the rest of your group will feel while they are baking on the beach.   I also have plenty of shade under the T-Top.  Feel free to bring your bathing suit too.   There’s always time for a quick swim!

So go ahead and sleep in, have a nice breakfast, let that hangover ease a little and let’s fit you in one of my afternoon slots and I’ll see you at the dock at noon, or maybe an evening trip at 4pm!

PS – today’s fishing report – Found 5 keeper flounder and got back on the drum. Nice trip!

Slammer Jammer

My boat is down with a pretty significant repair needed. Hopefully itll go quickly and smoothly.   Luckily, my awesome buddy Patrick who happened to of purchased my old boat that I used for guiding let me use it while mines in the shop.   I miss that rig – its a very fishing friendly layout.    We started off the morning fishing hard for 1 keeper flounder.  Made a move and found an awesome drum bite.   Played with them for a while before changing back up to meat fishing.  Grinded hard and managed a beautiful 24.5″ trout.  Thanks guys!
